What Happens at Your First Appointment
Your initial consultation is 45 minutes. Here’s exactly how we use that time.
Step 1 - We listen first
We assess your movement, understand your goals, and measure your baseline using advanced technology, giving you a clear pathway to success.
Step 2 - We assess and measure
A thorough physical examination to identify what's driving the problem. Where appropriate, we use objective testing technology including VALD forceplates and strength assessment tools to give you a real baseline, not just a clinical impression.
Step 3 - We explain what we found
In plain language. You'll understand your diagnosis, what's causing it, and what we can realistically do about it.
Step 4 - We start treatment
Assessment and treatment happen in the same session. You don't wait until visit two to start getting better.
Step 5 - You leave with a plan
A clear pathway, realistic timelines, and a personalised exercise program with videos. Your progress is tracked in our app so you can see it moving in the right direction.

Funding & Rebates
There are several ways to reduce your out-of-pocket costs at PTC Physiotherapy. Here’s a plain-language breakdown of each one.
Private Health Insurance
We accept all major Australian health funds and process your rebate on the spot via HICAPS. You pay the gap at the desk. The gap varies depending on your fund and level of cover. Call your insurer and ask for your benefit on item number 500 (initial) or 505 (subsequent) before your first appointment.
Medicare - Chronic Disease Management (CDM)
Your GP can refer you for up to 5 subsidised sessions per calendar year. Medicare provides a rebate of $61.80 per session (2025 rates). You pay the full fee upfront and receive your rebate within 1-2 business days via Tyro Health. Make sure your GP's referral includes our practice name and your physio's name.
WorkCover & CTP
Injured at work or in a motor vehicle accident? Talk with our team and let us know your claim number and insurer details when you book. We'll take it from there.
NDIS
We support self-managed and plan-managed participants. Let our team know before your first appointment so we can help align your physiotherapy goals with your plan from the start.
DVA
We see DVA Gold and White card holders. A GP referral is required. Contact us and we'll walk you through what's needed.
Not sure which applies to you?
Call us on (02) 7226 3616 or email reception@ptcphysiotherapy.com.au. We’ll sort it out before you book.
Common Questions
- Booking & Referrals
Do I need a referral to book?
No. You can book directly with us online or by phone. No referral needed.
However, if you’ve already seen your GP or surgeon, it’s helpful to bring any referral letters or imaging reports to your first session. Some funding pathways do require specific documentation:
- Medicare (CDM plan) Requires a referral from your GP.
- Workers Compensation / CTP Requires insurer approval.
- NDIS May require documentation depending on your plan management type.
- DVA Requires a referral from your GP.
Not sure what applies to you? Give us a call and we’ll walk you through it.
How do I prepare for my first appointment?
To help your physio make the most of your session, here’s what to do before you arrive:
- Fill out your new client form and pay your deposit (sent to you when you book)
- Bring any scans, imaging reports, or referral letters from your doctor or surgeon
- Bring your private health insurance card or Medicare card
- Bring any braces, supports, or orthotics you currently use
- Have your NDIS plan details handy if you’re an NDIS participant
Wear comfortable clothing or activewear so we can easily assess the affected area. For example, shorts are ideal for knee appointments, and a singlet or loose top works well for shoulder concerns.
What happens if I need to cancel?
- Fees & Rebates
How much will my health fund rebate be?
Call your insurer and ask for your benefit on item number 500 (initial) or 505 (subsequent). We process rebates on the spot via HICAPS. For more information please refer to our Funding and Rebates information.
Do Medicare sessions mean free physiotherapy?
Not quite. You’re eligible for up to 5 subsidised sessions per year with a rebate of $61.80 per session (2025 rates). You pay upfront and receive your rebate within 1-2 business days.Â
For more information please refer to our Funding and Rebates information.
Do you see NDIS participants?
Yes. We provide physiotherapy for NDIS participants, whether you’re self-managed, plan-managed, or agency-managed.
We support participants across a range of needs, including:
- Mobility improvement and pain management
- Strength and capacity building
- Working toward greater independence in daily activities
- In-clinic treatment with access to on-site gym equipment
- Mobile community visits for participants who are unable to attend the clinic
Our team works closely with you and your support coordinators or plan managers to align your physiotherapy with your NDIS goals. Visit our NDIS page for more details, or get in touch to discuss how we can help.
- Our Services
What is a physiotherapist?
A physiotherapist is a university-qualified health professional who helps you move better, manage pain, and get back to the activities that matter most to you. Whether that’s returning to sport, playing with your kids, or simply getting through the day more comfortably, a physio works with you to understand what’s going on and create a plan to help.
What is dry needling, and does it hurt?
Dry needling uses fine, single-use needles inserted into trigger points in your muscles to relieve tension, reduce pain, and improve movement. There’s no medication or injection involved. The needle itself does the work.
Does it hurt?
- Most people feel a brief, deep ache or a twitch response. That’s a good sign it’s working
- Some areas are more sensitive than others
- Your physio will check in with you throughout and adjust as needed
Dry needling can be included as part of your physiotherapy session or booked as a standalone 30-minute appointment.
What’s the difference between remedial massage and physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy focuses on diagnosing the underlying cause of your pain or movement issue. Your physio uses assessment, hands-on techniques, exercise prescription, and education to help you recover and stay well long-term.
Remedial massage focuses on hands-on soft tissue treatment to reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and support recovery. It’s a great complement to physiotherapy, especially for chronic tightness, recovery from training, or targeted release work.
Many of our clients use both services as part of their care. Your physiotherapist can guide you on whether adding remedial massage would benefit your recovery.
Do you treat children?
Yes. We provide physiotherapy for children and adolescents across a range of needs, including:
- Sports injuries and return-to-sport rehab
- Growing pains and developmental concerns
- Movement and coordination difficulties
- NDIS-funded physiotherapy support
Who will treat my child?Â
- Peter: our paediatric sports physio with a clinical focus in this area, currently working toward formal APA recognition in paediatric physiotherapy
Â
- Penelope: has a special interest in younger populations, with a naturally caring and empathetic approach that puts kids and parents at easeÂ
We make every session engaging, age-appropriate, and reassuring for the whole family. All team members who work with children hold current Working With Children Checks.Â
- Location & Access
Where is the clinic located?
We’re located in the PCYC Auburn building, located at Church Street, Lidcombe
Is there parking available?
Yes. There is parking at PCYC Auburn.
What are your opening hours?
We are currently open 8am-8pm on Mondays – Thursdays, 8am-6pm on Fridays, and 8am-1pm on Saturdays
Subject to availability, we offer same-day appointments Monday to Saturday, so if you need to be seen quickly, book online or call us on (02) 7226 3616.Â
Do you offer home visits or mobile appointments?
Yes. Our Mobile Community Service provides physiotherapy for people who are unable to attend the clinic, whether that’s due to mobility limitations, complex health needs, age, or other barriers to travel.Â
Who is this for?
- NDIS participants
- Seniors
- Children who require in-home or community-based careÂ
Mobile appointments are available across Lidcombe and the broader Cumberland Council area. Your physio brings everything needed to deliver a thorough session in the comfort of your home or community setting.Â
Not sure if mobile visits are right for your situation? Give us a call and we’ll help you work it out.Â
Do you offer telehealth or online consultations?
Yes, we can accommodate telehealth appointments in some circumstances. Online sessions follow a similar structure to in-person consults. Your physio will listen to your concerns, guide you through a movement assessment, and provide exercise-based treatment and education. The main difference is that hands-on treatment isn’t possible via telehealth.
Not sure whether telehealth suits your situation? Get in touch and we’ll advise you on the best option.
